"The Babe", George Caron, born in Brownville Junction in 1933. In the mid 1950's, he was ranked as Maine's number 1 welterweight boxer. Pictured above while prepping for a 1957 bout, Babe compiled a career record of 37 wins, 11 losses, and one tie before his retirement in 1963 as the State's undefeated middleweight boxing champion.
